During the 9/12/01 meeting two additional sessions
were identified – Obesity & Diabetes, and Cultural Views of Health. Five existing session identified: Native American Health Media influences on health Capacity Building Grantwriting Funding Issues Social Determinants of Health could be 1 or 2
sessions. Additional people are
needed to help make telephone calls.
The speaker committee is open to interested persons and meets every
other Wednesday from 4-5pm in
Rosenau’s 3rd floor conference room. The subcommittee may meet more frequently as needed. Meeting time may be used to write letters
etc. Barbara Chavious will contact Poverty Simulation
contact at Baby Love Conference. Cost
is about $250-300. Will need two
sessions for the presentation. 75
people will be able to attend this session. Speakers confirmed to date include Kurt Ribisl –
who will discuss ways in which tobacco companies market to communities of
color. Jane Brown agreed to speak on
media influences & minority adolescents. **SUB and Dean’s office has agreed to let us use
office space to make phone calls for potential funding. The key will be in Maceo’s HBHE mailbox. Budget subcommittee reported that they are working
on the solicitation letter. The
letter will include incentives for donors such as table tents, donor logos on
folders/binders etc. Upcoming Deadlines: 10/15 – OCE will mail out the solicitation letters 10/22 – OSA & OEA (cocktail hour) advertising
during APHA 11/5 – begin calling donors and try to secure pledges
by Thanksgiving MHC seeking new contacts, departments, and
personal contacts for potential donors.
Soliciting department heads for support of the conference. Also may contact Urban planning,
geography, social medicine, anthropology, and Sonya Hanes Cultural Center,
State Government for donations. Aundra Shields said the Dean’s Office will donate
SPH folders Potential Conference schedule: Keynote 5 Morning sessions (concurrent) Lunch 5 Afternoon Sessions (concurrent) Break 5 Late Sessions (concurrent) Urban planning session needs to be split to
include different areas such as transportation, safety, pollution, zoning,
and development. Additional sessions identified were Men’s Health,
Migrant Farming, Incarceration, Poverty Simulation, Education – looking at
children, retention in higher education, education policies November 16 –deadline for speakers confirmation Sacoby & Alicia will work together on the migrant
farming session |
Identify speakers
& refer them to the speakers subcommittee MHC committee & volunteers need to make phone
calls to potential donors before October 10th meetings. Barbara Chavious will give update on the poverty
simulation session. Speakers committee will follow up. Seronda Jackson and Jabar Akbar are working on a
draft of the letter by October 10th. Alicia Salvatore will keep excel spreadsheet with
updated contact information. MHC will make phone calls to potential donors for
updated contact information. Donors
